Tour offers look at grain, seed operation at Nash’s

SEQUIM — A public tour of the grain and seed operation at Nash’s Organic Produce, 4681 Sequim-Dungeness Way, is 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, May 12.

The tour will include the farm’s infrastructure for harvesting, drying, cleaning, storing, milling, bagging and packaging grain and seed.

Information about how grain and seed are integrated into the whole farm system, including livestock production and soil fertility management, will be shared.

Participants are invited to stay after the farm walk for a community potluck.

The tour is sponsored by Tilth Producers of Washington and the Washington State University Small Farms Team and will be led by farm managers Sam McCullough and Chris Tipton as well as owner Nash Huber.

The farm walk costs $25 for nonmembers, $15 for Tilth Producer members and $15 for students and interns. An additional $5 will be charged for day-of registration.

Little joins Irwin Dental Center

PORT ANGELES — Dr. Larry Little will practice at Irwin Dental Center, 620 E. Eighth St.

Little previously worked with Indian Health Service in Neah Bay. He also maintained a practice in Port Townsend for 20 years.

With his wife, Michelle, the couple developed the North Olympic Discovery Marathon.

Little was director for the Volunteers in Medicine Clinic, developing multiple health programs, including the VIMO dental program, to serve the underprivileged, in Port Angeles.

He studied at Emory University, the Medical College of Georgia and the University of Washington School of Public Health.

PORT ANGELES — Marc and Pat Thomsen, aka Team Thomsen, have been named Agents of the Month for April at Coldwell Banker Uptown Realty, 1115 E. Front St.

On Fridays, an open-mic night, “Cozy,” invites poets, musicians and performance artists.

PORT ANGELES — Kyle Ellis has closed Steppin’ Out Salon, 125 W. First St.

He will now style at Electric Beach Tanning, Swimwear and Hair Salon, 117 N. Oak St., as Kyle’s Hair Design.

His hours are from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays.

On Sundays, hours are from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The bakery’s Saturday hours are from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Regular week hours are from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Chemical workshop

PORT ANGELES — The state Department of Labor & Industries will hold a workshop to help employers know how to deal with chemical hazards, including new Globally Harmonized System requirements.

The workshop will run from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday, May 15, at the Labor & Industries office, 1605 E. Front St., Suite C.

PA business students attend state conference

PORT ANGELES — Nine students from the Port Angeles High School Future Business Leaders of America recently returned from the annual Washington State Business Leadership Conference, held at the Seattle Westin Hotel, with several recognitions.

The Port Angeles High chapter received an award as the second largest Olympic Peninsula region chapter. It also received the Gold Seal Chapter award, given to the top 5 percent to 10 percent of chapters in Washington state who complete a rigorous list of extra requirements.

Madison Drew, a PAHS senior, placed fourth in health care administration and could represent the high school chapter at the FBLA National Conference in Nashville, Tenn., in June.

Pam Helpenstell and Bernie Brabant are the Port Angeles High chapter advisers.
