‘Best shop’ honor

PORT ANGELES — The Bike Garage, located at 403 S. Lincoln St., Suite 2, was recently voted as one of “America’s Best Bike Shops” by the National Bicycle Dealer Association board, sponsors and supporters.

The program was created to highlight shops that best support their community, provide top-notch customer service, display operational excellence and support the industry both locally and nationally, according to a news release.

The Bike Garage, owned by Tom Michowski, was one of 11 bicycle shops in Washington to earn the title.

Volunteer tax preparers sought

Tax-Aide on the North Olympic Peninsula is looking for new volunteers to prepare federal income tax returns for the coming tax season.

Tax-Aide volunteers provide free tax return preparation and electronic filing for low- and middle-income community members.

The Tax-Aide program is sponsored by the Internal Revenue Service and the AARP Foundation.

AARP membership is not required to volunteer or to receive Tax-Aide’s free tax preparation and e-filing services.

Training begins in December using training materials and software provided by the IRS.

All volunteers must attend training classes and pass an IRS test before assisting taxpayers during the tax season.

Framing seminar

PORT ANGELES — Karon’s Frame Center staff recently attended an educational seminar in Portland, Ore.

Business owners Rene and Larry Bauer along with employees Joanne Berry and Nicole Harrison participated in several classes through Framer’s Inventory, a major supplier in the framing industry.

The seminar attracted more than 200 picture framers from Idaho, Oregon and Washington.

Hyperbaric clinic

SEQUIM — Crystal Tack, naturopathic physician, acupuncturist and director of the Sequim Clinic for Acupuncture and Naturopathic Medicine for 25 years, now offers a Vitaeris 320 mild hyperbaric chamber.

Hyperbaric medicine became known for treating divers with the bends. It is rapidly becoming popular at lower pressures to support healing for many conditions, Tack said.

Tack also provides an in-depth intake to evaluate whether hyperbaric therapy is a good match for one’s specific needs and present health program.

Contractor Challenge

PORT ANGELES — Angeles Millwork & Lumber Co. recently hosted a customer appreciation event.

During the Contractor Challenge, contestants tested their drill skills by measuring and drilling two holes and sinking 10 screws into a 2-by-4 piece of wood in a timed event.

They also scored points by correctly identifying various nails by viewing only the nailhead.

Kurt Nicpon, owner of Kurt Nicpon Construction, scored Top Contractor honors in the competition.

Ed Hogan of Pacific Cedar Homes earned a close second place.

Both won new drills, air compressors and bragging rights.

The Screwy Guesses contest winner was Julie Belling, with a guess that was six short of the actual 406.

Grip Rite, Makita, DeWalt, Irwin and FastenMaster sponsored prizes.

KONP talk guests
