THE SNOWSTORM THAT could drop 2 to 5 inches of new snow on the North Olympic Peninsula is supposed to hit between midnight and 1 a.m. Wednesday.
“This is a good day to stay home,” said Ted Buehner of the National Weather Service in Seattle. “This is going to be a widespread and significant snow event.”
Look for a steady snowfall all day and possibly into the evening, Buehner said.
The latest weather forecast calls for less than the 6 to 14 inches forecasters originally called for — but, still, it’s plenty to cover roads and highways, making travel difficult to impassible on some routes.
Here’s a forecast from the National Weather Service for Jefferson and Clallam counties for the next seven days:
TONIGHT — Windy. Mostly cloudy. A chance of snow. Lows in the mid to upper 20s. Northwest wind 10 to 20 mph with gusts to 30 mph becoming east 15 to 30 mph with gusts to 40 mph after midnight.
WEDNESDAY — Windy with snow. Snow may be heavy at times in the morning. Snow accumulation of 2 to 5 inches. Highs in the mid 20s to lower 30s. East wind 20 to 35 mph with gusts to 50 mph.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT — Windy. Snow likely, Mainly after midnight. Snow accumulation up to 1 inch. Lows in the 20s. East wind 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 45 mph decreasing to 10 to 20 mph with gusts to 30 mph after midnight.
THURSDAY — Mostly cloudy with a chance of rain and snow. Highs in the lower to mid 30s. East wind 10 to 20 mph.
THURSDAY NIGHT — Breezy. Rain and snow likely in the evening, then rain likely after midnight. Lows in the lower to mid 30s. East wind 10 to 15 mph increasing to 15 to 25 mph after midnight.
FRIDAY — Rain. Highs in the lower to mid 40s.
FRIDAY NIGHT — Rain. Lows near 40.
SATURDAY — Windy. Rain. Highs in the mid 40s.
SATURDAY NIGHT — Rain. Lows in the mid to upper 30s.
