Green Thumbs series session set for Thursday

Secret lives of garden’s insects described

PORT ANGELES — In “Identifying Eggs and Juvenile Forms of Beetles and Other Insects in Your Garden” — the second of a two-part Green Thumbs Garden Tips education series event — Laurel Moulton, program coordinator for the Clallam County Master Gardeners, takes participants on a journey through the secret lives of young insects in the garden.

This hour-long presentation — one that was originally slated to be held in person but has now been moved to Zoom — is scheduled from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday. To join, visit the WSU Clallam County Extension website at extension.wsu.edu/clallam.

Moulton will focus on grubs, juvenile forms of beetles and other juvenile insects that may look a little more complex. Part one focused on juvenile butterflies, moths, flies and other insects that are referred to as worms, caterpillars or maggots when they are young. It is available on the WSU Clallam County Extension website for those who missed it.

Participants will come away knowing a little more about the life stages of insects, where to find keys to identify them, and what some common ones are in the garden.

Moulton has been a Master Gardener since 2006 and received her master’s degree in horticulture with a minor in entomology from Oregon State University in 2011.

Sponsored by WSU Clallam County Master Gardeners, the Green Thumbs Garden Tips education series seeks to provide home gardeners with education on research-based sustainable garden practices in Clallam County.

The series is offered via streaming presentations from noon to 1 p.m. the second and fourth Thursday each month through October (in November, December and January, one program monthly is offered). For more information, call 360-565-2679.
