SEQUIM — A Poulsbo woman was injured Wednesday morning when she and her husband, who were in a crosswalk, were struck by a vehicle driven by an 87-year-old Port Ludlow motorist on North Sequim Avenue.
Deon Williams, 76, sustained injuries to the head, hand and hip when she was struck by a 2007 Chevrolet HHR wagon driven by Alice O’Donnell, the State Patrol said.
Williams was treated at Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles and was discharged Wednesday afternoon, a hospital supervisor said.
Williams and her husband, Richard, 73, both of Poulsbo, were crossing east on North Sequim Avenue in a crosswalk at Cedar Street at about 10:42 a.m. when they were struck, the State Patrol said in a report.
He was not injured.
Sequim Police Department assisted the State Patrol.
O’Donnell was allowed to drive her vehicle from the scene, said Trooper Krista Hedstrom, State Patrol spokeswoman, and the cause of the collision was reported as failure to yield to pedestrians in a crosswalk.
The driver was not charged. An investigation is under way.
“It is a 25-mile-per-hour zone through there, and I think it was at a fairly slow rate” of travel, Hedstrom said, adding that speed was not cited as a contributing factor.
Hedstrom said that, because of the motorist’s age, she may be required to take another driver’s examination with the state Department of Licensing if she wants to continue to drive.
