PORT ANGELES –– The wild things are here.
Humanity meshes with the animal kingdom in Salem, Ore., artist Heidi Preuss Grew’s new exhibit “Into the Wilderness,” which will be featured at the Port Angeles Fine Arts Center from Thursday to Nov. 2.
A free reception to open Preuss Grew’s show will be at 5 p.m. Thursday in the fine arts center’s gallery, 1203 E. Lauridsen Blvd.
Primarily working in porcelain clay, Preuss Grew combines imagery of animals and humans to amplify a range of aspects spanning from vulnerable to heroic.
She earned her bachelor’s and bachelor’s of fine arts degrees in German, art history and crafts from University of Illinois and her master’s of fine arts degree in ceramic from Ohio University.
For the last 15 years, she has taught studio art on the faculty in the Department of Art and Art History at Willamette University in Salem, Ore.
Preuss Grew said she draws her inspiration from daily life, friends and historical characters encapsulating both their physical and expressive facets.
She recently exhibited for a month at the 20th International Ceramic Symposium in Panevezys, Lithuania and the 46th International Academy of Ceramics in Dublin, Ireland.
The Port Angeles Fine Arts Center gallery is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday to Sunday.
