PORT TOWNSEND — Information on the annual National STEM Video Game Challenge will be provided free at the Cotton Building, 607 Water St., on Sunday.
An information session for teachers is set from 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.
A session for parents and children is set from noon to 3:30 p.m.
The contest is sponsored by the Smithsonian in partnership with the Joan Ganz Cooney Center and E-Line Media.
Student teams
Teams of middle and high school students enter original games and game designs.
The contest goal is to motivate interest in learning science, technology, engineering and math — STEM — subjects through playing and making video games.
At the first session, teachers can learn how to support their students, register and enter the challenge.
At the second session, children and parents will meet a professional video game designer, practice the principles of video game design and learn from the presenters of the National STEM Video Game Challenge about how children can enter the competition with games they design.
Parents asked to stay
Parents are asked to stay and participate with children younger than 12.
Registration is required for both of Sunday’s sessions, which are sponsored by the Port Townsend Library.
To register, phone 360-385-3181 or go to the library events calendar at www.ptpubliclibrary.org.
