PORT TOWNSEND — In a concert called “Love Affair on Three Legs,” four pianists will celebrate the Quimper Unitarian Universalist Fellowship’s 1935 Steinway & Sons grand piano — a three-legged instrument — this Saturday.
The varied musical program will start at 7 p.m. at the Quimper U.U. Fellowship, 2333 San Juan Ave. Admission is a suggested $20 donation, “more if you can, less if you can’t,” noted Dicksy Scott, chairwoman of the fellowship’s music committee.
In this unprecedented event, Bob Francis, Evan Millman, Pat Rodgers and Ikue Goldstein will offer music highlighting the piano’s power and adaptability.
Abdullah Ibrahim’s “African Piano,” Millman’s “Rock-n-Ramblin’ Blues” and Gustav Lange’s “Home Sweet Home” are on the program, as is a piano-only arrangement of Ola Gjeilo’s “Across the Vast, Eternal Sky.”
For a rendition of Fred Hersch’s “Canzona,” singer Colleen Johnson will join the ensemble known as Confluence — violinist Victoria Poling, saxophonist Al Thompson and pianist Bob Francis.
Saturday’s concert will also bring a few surprises, promised Scott.
