PORT ANGELES — Peninsula College will present a double feature of documentaries about food and farming tonight.
The films will be in Peninsula College’s Maier Performance Hall, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd.
“The New Green Giants” will begin at 7 p.m. and runs about 47 minutes. It will be immediately followed by “Big or Small?,” which is 29 minutes long.
Area farmers on hand
A discussion led by area farmers will immediately follow the showing of the films.
General admission is a suggested $5 donation; students with a Peninsula College ID card are admitted free.
All proceeds will be donated to the Port Angeles Food Bank.
Both films are sponsored by Peninsula College’s Magic of Cinema Film Series and the Port Angeles Food Bank.
“The New Green Giants,” directed by Ted Remerowski, looks at some of the bigger questions surrounding organic food: Is it really healthier? Is it truly organic? Is it possible to grow from a mom-and-pop operation to become a huge supplier of major grocery chains?
“Big or Small?,” directed by Alex Gabbay, displays how economies of scale suggest that bigger is better when it comes to feeding a hungry planet.
But there is a price too “big” that’s not factored in at the checkout counter, the film says, and as a consequence, a “small farmer” revolution is unfolding in many rich countries, including the United States.
