PORT ANGELES — The Countercurrent band is headed this way to supply music for the April dance at the Black Diamond Community Hall this Saturday night, and everybody is invited.
The gathering starts with an introductory workshop at 7:30 p.m. with dance caller Eric Curl; no partners nor previous knowledge of contra dancing is needed to partake in the half-hour session. Contra is a line dance mixing English, French and American styles, and it’s something people of pretty much any age can do.
Countercurrent, which features Oberlin College alumni Brian Lindsay and Alex Sturbaum, will get the music flowing at 8 p.m. and keep on till about 11 p.m.
Admission to the dance is a suggested $8 for adults and $4 for those 17 and younger, but no one is turned away for lack of funds.
“Come and pay what you can, or bring a finger-food treat,” notes the Port Angeles contra-dance website, www.BlackDiamondDance.org.
“Most important is to bring your enthusiasm and eagerness to dance.”
Dancers will find the Black Diamond Community Hall about 2 miles south of Port Angeles at 1942 Black Diamond Road, while more details can be had at www.BlackDiamondDance.org or by phoning 360-457-5667.
