The Sequim School District board will hold a public hearing tonight to discuss possible program cuts in the wake of a failed levy election last month. The district includes Gardiner.
The board will consider further proposals from Superintendent Garn Christensen on how to cut up to $1.2 million from its 2004-2005 budget, which will be formally adopted this summer.
Christensen said he will lay out proposed cuts in extracurricular activities, nonessential services and possibly facilities and maintenance costs, and invite public comment on his recommendations.
The district plans to approach voters again in a special maintenance and operations replacement levy election ending May 18. It will seek $5.16 million over 2004-2006.
Tonight’s hearing will be held at 7 p.m. in the cafeteria at Sequim Middle School, 301 W. Hendrickson Road, Sequim.
