Sequim auditions for ‘Monologues’ slated Thursday, Sunday

SEQUIM — Auditions for “The Vagina Monologues,” Eve Ensler’s episodic play to be staged at Olympic Theatre Arts, will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday and 3 p.m. Sunday in OTA’s Gathering Hall.

The production, a second-stage offering, will run two weekends: Feb. 27-March 1 and March 6-8 at OTA, 414 N. Sequim Ave.

“The Vagina Monologues” tells real stories of real women by focusing on a spirit of celebration and humor, according to OTA’s audition announcement.

For the six Sequim performances, director Sharon DelaBarre is seeking to cast three to four women ranging in age from 20-something to 60-something.

Ensler first staged “The Vagina Monologues” in 1996. Since then, it has been translated into more than 45 languages, performed in more than 120 countries and re-created as an HBO film.

Performers such as Oprah Winfrey, Kate Winslet, Julianna Margulies, Diahann Carroll, Susan Sarandon, Mo’Nique, Melissa Etheridge and Rita Moreno have appeared in the play, which has monologues about many aspects of the feminine experience, sex, love and birth among them.

A script is available for advance review in the OTA office, open from 1 p.m. to p.m., Monday through Friday, while information can be had by phoning OTA during those hours at 360-683-7326 or DelaBarre at 360-683-6592.
