PORT ANGELES — The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon, a mashup of fairy tales, action and comedy, arrives at the Port Angeles High School Performing Arts Center, 304 E. Park Ave., this Wednesday through Saturday via some 30 members of the high school’s Drama Club.
Auditorium doors will open at 6:30 each night of the run, with curtain time at 7 p.m. Admission is $7, or $6 for students and seniors.
In this show, Snow White, Hansel and Gretel, Cinderella and lesser-known stories such as “The Talking Fish,” “The Devil’s Grandmother” and “The Girl Without Hands” — Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm’s tales, adapted by Don Zolidis — come to life.
Port Angeles High drama coach Kelly Lovall directs all of the frolic, while students Tavin Dotson and Katie Bowes serve as the narrators.
They will introduce the Grimms’ stories in their original form — “without interference from the Disney corporation,” Dotson noted.
“The stories are told with surprise twists and contemporary outbursts,” he writes in his news release, adding that the characters do not always play well together.
It is revealed, for example, that Rapunzel has a serious attitude problem. She finds that true love does not happen at first glance after all.
As far as Snow White and Sleeping Beauty go, no one can tell them apart. And Little Red Cap comes from a very tough, brutal ’hood.
“The audience is guided through each tale by a series of different narrators,” Dotson added.
These storytellers are played by students Kay Methner, Grace Sanwald, Maria Soule, Hope Winsor, Zoe Bozich, Jeffrey Mordecai-Smith, Annie Robertson, Kayla La Fritz and Emma Szczepczynski.
The cast and crew also include students Jack Simpson, Charles Krause, Milo Atwater, Cassidy Tamburro, Shanzi Tucker-Cosgrove, Sammy Weinert, Madelynne Jones, Kristin Kirkman, Olivia Due, Trevor Fox, Mary Dawson, Clare Wegener, Noah Merideth, Ally Mon Wai, Ashia Lawrence, Claire Fritschler, Kacey Casad and Freja Järvegren-Uecker.
