PORT ANGELES — A Port Angeles man has been sentenced after pleading guilty to attacking another man who had reportedly broken into his trailer in March.
Daniel Joseph Jenkins, 21, pleaded guilty May 13 to one count of fourth-degree assault after hitting Zachary Michael Taylor, 20, of Port Angeles with a metal pipe March 18, sending him to Olympic Medical Center with a head laceration.
Jenkins was sentenced May 13 to 30 days in jail, converted to 240 hours community service, according to Clallam County Superior Court documents.
Taylor and two others, Joshua Allen Cabe, 26, of Forks and Ordez Eugene Kompkoff, 19, of Port Angeles, had allegedly forced their way into Jenkins’ trailer at the Welcome Inn Trailer and RV Park, 1215 W. U.S. Highway 101, at about 12:07 a.m. March 18.
The trio allegedly attacked Jenkins and made off with his computer, cellphone, cash and the shoes off his feet, among other items, according to police accounts.
Cabe has pleaded not guilty to one count each of first-degree robbery, unlawful imprisonment, third-degree theft and fourth-degree assault in the case.
A jury trial had been set to begin today, according to Superior Court documents, but an April 25 filing indicated the defense and prosecution had reached a resolution.
No additional hearing date had been set.
Cabe remained in the Clallam County jail Sunday on $15,000 bond.
Taylor is set to face a June 9 jury trial after he was charged and pleaded not guilty to one count each of first-degree robbery, theft of a motor vehicle, unlawful imprisonment, fourth-degree assault and third-degree theft.
He remained in the county jail Sunday on $25,000 bond.
Kompkoff, who remained in jail Sunday on $20,000 bail, is set to face a June 16 trial after being charged with and pleading not guilty to the same charge as Taylor.
The theft of a motor vehicle count stems from Taylor and Kompkoff allegedly taking the 2002 Volkswagen Jetta that Cabe had been driving March 18, according to Superior Court documents.
The pair allegedly took the car keys from Cabe’s pants pockets while he slept in a room at the Aircrest Motel, where the three had been at about 9:49 a.m. March 18, according to police.
The car, which reportedly belonged to Cabe’s mother, was found later that day near the intersection of 11th and A streets, police said.
Police arrested Taylor on March 19 after he was discharged from OMC following treatment for the head wound suffered when Jenkins allegedly assaulted him.
Police arrested Cabe on March 20 and took Kompkoff into custody after he turned himself in March 21.
