SEQUIM — Fifty-six poets from across Clallam and Jefferson counties are among the winners of the inaugural Rainshadow Poetry Competition.
The contest judges chose these poets — from a field of 97 entries — for the 2015 Rainshadow Poetry Anthology, a 68-page book with cover art donated by Sequim painter Deborah Sterk.
The Rainshadow Poetry Competition celebrates National Poetry Month in April and is sponsored by Olympic Theatre Arts.
The North Olympic Library System worked with OTA and hosted poetry writing workshops in January.
Project managers are Judy Duncan and Ruth Marcus.
The event will culminate in a public reading by the winning poets at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 26, at Olympic Theatre Arts, 414 N. Sequim Ave. Admission will be by donation.
In the meantime, the Rainshadow Poetry Anthology is available for $10 by emailing either Marcus at Rmarcus@olypen.com or Duncan at Judy1ster@gmail.com.
The book — of which 300 copies have been printed — will then be available at the April 26 event at Olympic Theatre Arts.
In addition, it will be for sale at the Writers on the Spit’s Fourth Friday Readings, free events held at 6:30 p.m. this Friday and Friday, April 24, at Rainshadow Coffee Roasting Co., 157 W. Cedar St. in Sequim.
