Peninsula College trustees to name interim president

PORT ANGELES — Peninsula College trustees will name an interim president to temporarily replace Peninsula College President Tom Keegan when they meet Tuesday.

Trustees will discuss the matter during a closed executive session at noon in Room A-12 at the college’s main campus, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd.

They will convene in open session at 2 p.m. in the same room and vote on the appointment.

They also will discuss the process of finding a permanent replacement for Keegan.

Keegan, who has led Peninsula College for 10 years, was selected as the new president of Skagit Valley College on Oct. 12.

His last day at Peninsula College will be Friday, Feb. 3, and the interim president will take the reins Monday, Feb. 6.

Keegan said Wednesday that he would play his part “in making sure the transition is smooth and keeping the focus on teaching and learning.”

The board also is expected Tuesday to name members to a search advisory committee, select a search consultant and approve a time line for the process.

The search advisory committee members are scheduled to meet with the search consultant in January to create a profile for the president they want, and a search announcement will be posted in February.

The profile will describe the position, required and preferred qualifications, experience and skills desired, as well as the foreseeable opportunities and challenges at the college, which is based in Port Angeles with branches in Forks and Port Townsend.

Community input for the qualities desired in the next college president are being collected at forums across the North Olympic Peninsula.

Community forums

The first community forum was Friday in Sequim.

The next two will be in Port Angeles and Forks on Monday. Both will be at 5:30 p.m.

The Port Angeles meeting will be in the Cornaby Center (A-12) at the college, while the Forks meeting will be at the Forks Extension site, 71 S. Forks Ave.

The Port Townsend meeting, also at 5:30 p.m., will be Wednesday at the Port Townsend Extension site in the schoolhouse across from the Commons, Room D, Fort Worden State Park, 298 Battery Way.

Community members are invited to attend any or all of the public forums held throughout the Peninsula.

Separate forums are scheduled for college faculty and staff.

Peninsula College students are invited to attend any of the public forums or the forums for college faculty and staff.

Meetings for Peninsula College faculty and staff in Port Angeles, Forks and Port Townsend will be at 9 a.m. Monday at the PUB Conference Room (J-47) at the college campus in Port Angeles, at 4 p.m. Monday at the Forks Extension site and at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Port Townsend Extension site, Room D.
