Peninsula assemblies will honor region’s veterans early starting today

VETERANS WILL BE honored for their service to their country at events across the North Olympic Peninsula.

Most events will be Tuesday, which is Veterans Day, but some are being held earlier.

Here is a list of those set for this weekend:

Sequim assemblies

SEQUIM — The Sequim School District, in honor of Veterans Day, will hold assemblies today and Monday.

The public is invited to attend any of these events.

Visitors should sign in at the front office of the school building before proceeding to the assembly.

Today’s assemblies are at:

â–  Sequim Middle School gym, 301 W. Hendrickson Road, 8:30 a.m.

â–  Greywolf Elementary multipurpose room, 171 Carlsborg Road, Carlsborg, 9 a.m.

â–  Helen Haller Elementary multipurpose room, 350 W. Fir St., 1 p.m. and 1:50 p.m.

The Monday assembly is at:

â–  Sequim High gym, 601 N. Sequim Ave., 10:45 a.m.

Blue Heron assembly

PORT TOWNSEND — Blue Heron Middle School, 3939 San Juan Ave., will hold a Veterans Day assembly today at 8:30 a.m.

One student’s father will speak about being a veteran, and the student will speak about living in a military family.

Students who have family members in the military also will be recognized.

The public can obtain a visitor’s pass at the front office.

Elementary assemblies

PORT ANGELES — Local elementary schools will hold Veterans Day assemblies today. They are open to the public.

â–  Jefferson Elementary gym, 218 E. 12th St., 8:15 a.m.

â–  Dry Creek Elementary gym, 25 Rife Road, 8:30 a.m.

â–  Franklin Elementary, 2305 S. Washington St., 1:20 p.m.

There also will be an assembly Friday, Nov. 14, at:

â–  Hamilton Elementary gym, 1822 W. Seventh St., 8:30 a.m.

Marine birthday ball

PORT ANGELES — The Mt. Olympus Marine Corps League will celebrate the 239th Marine Corps Birthday Ball on Saturday.

The ball will be at the Port Angeles Eagles Aerie No. 483, 2843 E. Myrtle St.

The cost is $35 per person.

The social hour will begin at 5:30 p.m. Dinner and a ceremony are set to start at 6:30 p.m.

All veterans and their guests are invited to attend.

Elks veteran dinner

FORKS — The Forks Elks Lodge, 941 Merchants Road, invites all veterans and veterans’ widows to its annual Veterans Dinner at 5 p.m. Sunday.

Veterans and veterans’ widows will be given a full-course meal at no cost. All others will pay $10 per person.

The general public is welcome to attend and honor those whose have served our country.

All proceeds benefit Elks’ veterans programs.
