PORT ANGELES — Downtown business owner Cayte Calloway, a fan of the Port Angeles-based cancer support organization Operation Uplift, is rounding up a small herd of musicians, fellow businesspeople and contributors for a party this Saturday night.
Starting at 7 p.m., Calloway will host Donate December, a mix of auctions, raffles and live rock and acoustic jamming at the Metta Room, 132 E. Front St.
Admission is a donation of $10 to $20, to include tickets to the evening’s raffles.
PufnStuff, the pairing of singer-guitarists Ches Ferguson and Mike Pace, and Three Too Many, a group featuring Dr. Mike Maxwell, wife Barbara Maxwell, Jeff Anderson, Sharon Thompson and Jeff Clark, will supply the classic and modern rock, said Metta Room manager Opal Anderson.
PufnStuff leans toward the Grateful Dead and the Youngbloods’ “Get Together,” while Three Too Many specializes in Talking Heads, Lenny Kravitz, Beatles and Rolling Stones covers.
Auction items
Among the items the auction offers are “amazing restaurant gift certificates, two brand-new snowboards — one signed by Travis Rice himself — a zipline adventure in Victoria, wine baskets, Seahawks goodies [and] a guided fishing trip,” Calloway noted.
She added that Operation Uplift has helped many families cope with cancer, including hers: She lost her father, David, to pancreatic cancer in 2009.
“I have also watched many of my friends and clients fight the battle,” said Calloway, owner and stylist at The Parlour, a beauty salon inside the Moss boutique at 120 W. First St.
“This event is my way of giving back, raising awareness and celebrating the lives lost,” she said.
This will be Calloway’s second Operation Uplift fundraiser. In 2012, she threw a party that reaped nearly $6,500 for the organization.
