NEWS BRIEFS — Winners of Port Townsend Film Festival window contest announced . . . and other items

PORT TOWNSEND — The winners of the 2014 Port Townsend Main Street Film Festival Window Contest are as follows:

■ First place: Daily Bird Pottery, 1011 Water St., “Harry Pottery and The Daily Bird.”

The Daily Bird crew won a six-pack festival pass for their window.

The store owners “melded film accoutrements with their pottery for a seamless yet whimsical presentation,” according to a news release.

■ Honorable mention: Patti’s Home Staging in the Hastings Building, “Spider Man.”

The judges were impressed by the creativity of the “Spider Man” window, according to the release.

Applications sought for Clallam County Fair Royalty

Clallam County Fair Royalty is seeking candidates for the 2015 court.

The program provides students with an opportunity to engage in community service and represent the fair in parades and community events.

Applications for the program are available at area high schools and on the Clallam County Fair website, www.clallam.net/fair/forms.html.

The court is open to all public school, home-schooled and private school students grades 10-12 (ages 16-18) who have a grade-point average of 2.6 or better and who reside in Clallam County.

Applicants need not be involved in 4-H or FFA.

The Clallam County Fair Royalty program is a scholarship program that gives $900 to the queen and $700 to the princesses.

An orientation is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 6, at 7 p.m. in the fairground kitchen.

Participants should bring a parent/guardian, a completed application, a sponsor fee and a sealed copy of a high school transcript.

Peace dance set

PORT TOWNSEND — Dances of Universal Peace will be held at Quimper Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 2333 San Juan Ave., at 7 p.m. Sunday.

Dances of Universal Peace are “simple, meditative, multicultural circle dances that use phrases, chants, music and movements from the many spiritual traditions of the earth to touch the essence within ourselves and recognize it in others,” according to a news release.

No experience is necessary. Admission is by donation.

Dances will be held the first Sunday of the month throughout the fall season.

Marine meet, forum slated Oct. 7 in Port Townsend

PORT TOWNSEND — The Jefferson County Marine Resources Committee will meet at the Northwest Maritime Center, 431 Water St., at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7.

An ocean health forum will follow from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the same room.

Dean’s list at Azusa Pacific University

AZUSA, Calif. — Sarah Browning of Port Townsend and Kathryn Moseley of Port Angeles recently made the academic dean’s list at Azusa Pacific University.

These students are honored for a spring 2014 grade-point average of 3.5 or better. They are joined by 1,743 students receiving the same honor.
