NEWS BRIEFS: Navy holding security exercise off Port Hadlock through Feb. 13 . . . and other items

PORT HADLOCK — Naval Magazine Indian Island will be the site of an annual security exercise Monday through Feb. 13, and area residents may see an increase in base activity as a result.

The scheduled exercise, Solid Curtain-Citadel Shield 2015, will be conducted on Navy installations throughout the U.S., according to a news release.

The exercise is designed to enhance the readiness of Navy security forces and is not in response to any specific threat.

There may be times when the exercise causes an increase in traffic around the base or delays in base access.

Area residents may also see increased security activity, including response vehicles and personnel associated with the exercise.

The Navy routinely conducts “force protection” exercises such as this to improve coordination among personnel who would respond during emergencies.

For more information, phone the Naval Magazine Indian Island public affairs officer at 360-396-1630.
