Buffet luncheon
PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Christian Women’s Connection will host a buffet luncheon at the Port Angeles CrabHouse Restaurant on Tuesday.
The CrabHouse, located at 221 N. Lincoln St., will also feature music and two speakers from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
The event costs $18.
Joe DeScala will share some adventures from his recent tenure around the state.
Wayne Dillingham will sing at the luncheon and Marilyn McNamara will provide piano music.
Elaine Oostra of Parma, Idaho, will present a speech, “One Brick at a Time.”
Spots are limited for this event, so staff members advise those interested to make reservations.

Spaghetti dinner
SEQUIM — The Sequim Elks Lodge will host a performance by mentalist Brian Ledbetter and a spaghetti dinner Saturday.
Tickets for the event are $25 for the dinner and show, $15 for dinner only, $10 for advance show tickets and $12 at the door for the show at 143 Port Williams Road. To purchase tickets, visit the lodge or call 360-683-2763.
At 5:30 p.m., a dinner of spaghetti, meatballs, Caesar salad, garlic bread and dessert will be served.
At 7 p.m., Ledbetter will begin his performance, which “combines comedy and audience participation with unbelievable demonstrations of mind-reading, extrasensory perception and telekinesis,” according to a news release.

Bentinck island range
ESQUIMALT, B.C. — The land-based demolition range at Bentinck Island will be in use Monday, Oct. 9 through Friday, Oct. 13, the Royal Canadian Navy announced.
The range will be in use from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily during that time.
Bentinck Island is located near Race Rocks in the Strait of Juan de Fuca and is used as a terrestrial demolition range by the Canadian Armed Forces.
Local residents will likely be unaware of the activities except on days when environmental conditions such as temperature, humidity and wind direction affect how far the sound will travel.
Studies conducted on the potential environmental effects of Bentinck Island demolitions have found that blast noise in the marine environment during land-based demolitions is almost undetectable by acoustic equipment above that of other underwater background sounds such as waves and marine life, the Royal Canadian Navy said in a news release.

Club info meeting set for Saturday
PORT ANGELES — The Happy Explorers Camp Fire Club invites parents and families to learn about the club at noon Saturday.
Attendees can learn how to get their child involved, how to start a club and be able to ask questions of current club leaders and council members at the Camp Fire Club clubhouse, 619 E. Fourth St.
During the event, the club will provide snacks and activities for children.
Camp Fire introduces kids and families to a variety of people, places and experiences within a fun, supportive club atmosphere, according to a news release.

SEQUIM — The Sequim Library invites children ages 7 to 12 to build craft stick catapults at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
Instructor Brad Griffith will lead the hands-on workshop at the library, 630 N. Sequim Ave.

Coffee with cops
PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Police Department and Clallam County Sheriff’s Office will hold a “Coffee with a Cop” event Thursday, Oct. 19.
The public is invited to join neighbors and police officers for coffee and conversation from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Bada NW, 118 W. First St.
There will be a chance to ask questions, voice concerns and get to know local officers.
Bada NW will provide 200 cups of free drip coffee for this event.

Beta nu grants
The Beta Nu Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International awarded four Community Education Grants in the Sequim and Port Angeles School Districts.
A total of $13,875 was distributed between Greywolf, Helen Haller and Franklin elementary schools.
Greywolf received $6,200 for its physical education program and $2,500 for a side-by-side reading program for children and parents.
Helen Haller was granted $4,900 for two reading fluency programs.
Franklin’s counseling program received $275 to purchase topic-focused books.
Teacher benefactors who donated funds to the chapter include Helen Gariepy, Helen Haller Heimbaugh, and Isabelle Whitfield.
