SEQUIM — The Olympic Peninsula Chapter of the International Footprint Association has installed an updated memorial plaque at the Clallam County Fire District headquarters in Sequim.
The old plaque, erected in the memory of Clallam County officers who died in the line of duty at 323 N. Fifth Ave. in Sequim, was outdated — missing the names of two officers — and was weathered, said Patrick Young, Fire Department spokesman.
Four safety officers
The new memorial, installed Thursday, contains the names of four public safety officers — three law enforcement officials and one firefighter.
They are Sheriff William A. Nelson, who died March 30, 1934; Sequim Fire District Firefighter Dale Kruse, who died Aug. 30, 1978; Clallam County Sheriff’s Deputy Wallace E. Davis, slain Aug. 5, 2000; and U.S. Forest Service Officer Kristine Fairbanks, who was killed Sept. 20, 2008.
Missing names
The names of Davis and Fairbanks were not on the previous plaque.
The Footprint Chapter donated the manpower and funding for the design and placement of the plaque, Young said.
Members of the Olympic Peninsula Footprint Chapter and the Sequim police and fire departments were present during the installation.
The nonprofit Footprint Association promotes fellowship among all arms of law enforcement, according to its website at www.footprinter.org.
