Man found with 6 pipe bombs in truck pleads not guilty

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles man charged with six counts of possessing pipe bombs in his truck — with an intent to use them — has pleaded not guilty in court.

Eric L. Possinger, 28, entered his plea in Clallam County Superior Court on Friday. A two- to three-day trial has been set for Jan. 3.

Possinger was arrested on Port Angeles’ west side in the early morning hours of Oct. 14 after police were called to his brother-in-law’s home.

Port Angeles police found a Glock 19 handgun in the bed of Possinger’s truck.

Officers were searching for the magazine when they discovered what appeared to be components of an improvised explosive device, or IED, court records show.

The officers, along with members of the State Patrol Interagency Bomb Squad, found six pipe bombs along with the magazine inside the truck.

Bomb squads detonated the IEDs in a remote, undisclosed location later that day.

Possinger told police that his brother-in-law had threatened his life and that he was concerned for his sister’s safety.

The brother-in-law told police that Possinger pointed a gun at him and that he could see a laser light targeting him.

Police said Possinger was standing in West 15th Street when they arrived in the 2000 block at about 3:30 a.m.

Possinger was formally charged in Superior Court with six counts of possession of a bomb or explosive device with intent to use it for an unlawful purpose.

He posted $15,000 bail on Oct. 15 and awaits a pre-trial hearing on Dec. 2.

Clallam County Superior Court Judge S. Brooke Taylor denied a motion to lift a no-contact order with Possinger’s sister.

The judge said the matter can be reviewed at next month’s status hearing.
