Lady Washington returns to Port Townsend

EDITOR’S NOTE: Grays Harbor Historical Seaport has changed the events planned for May 5. The Lady Washington will not be involved in the Port Townsend Yacht Club Opening Day Parade.

The PORT TOWNSEND — The tall ship Lady Washington will make a return trip to the Northwest Maritime Center beginning Saturday.

The tall ship, part of the Washington-based nonprofit Grays Harbor Historical Seaport, sails the waters of the Pacific each year along with the companion vessel Hawaiian Chieftain, offering educational programs, free deck tours, and sailing excursions.

From Saturday through May 7, the Lady Washington will be docked at Northwest Maritime Center at 431 Water St.

On weekends, the tall ship is open to the general public for ticketed Adventure Sail and Evening Sail events, which cost between $42 and $49.

Stationary dockside vessel tours are available Tuesday through Sunday for a $5 suggested donation. No tickets are needed for dockside tours.

Launched in 1989 in Aberdeen, Lady Washington is the official ambassador of the state of Washington and a replica of the original vessel of the same name, which was the first American ship to make landfall on the West Coast.
