PORT ANGELES — A second airline serving Seattle’s Boeing Field will begin service from William R. Fairchild International Airport next month.
“We are definitely going to be providing air service from Port Angeles to Boeing Field,” said Tim Brooks, director of flight operations for Kenmore Express, a new ground service division of Kenmore Air.
Kenmore Express will put wheels on Kenmore Air’s noted seaplane service that has been in operation since 1946.
Regular flights between Port Angeles and Boeing Field with a free ground shuttle to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport will begin “sometime in early June,” he said.
Brooks said he didn’t want to commit to a specific date because details remain to be worked out with the Federal Aviation Administration and there could be delays.
The company is “well aware” that San Juan Airlines already provides service to Boeing Field, Brooks said.
Kenmore Express will offer comparable flight schedules and airfares, he said.
Landing-fee waiver
The Port of Port Angeles, which operates Fairchild airport, recently waived landing fees for all regularly scheduled commercial airline service until further notice.
The waiver was requested by current airport tenant San Juan Airlines, but applies to all airlines landing at Fairchild.
Renton-based San Juan Airlines began offering five daily roundtrips between Port Angeles and Boeing Field on Jan. 7.
The airline replaced Horizon Air, which stopped its daily service between Port Angeles and Sea-Tac on Jan. 6, citing low ridership and a $1.5 million annual loss.
San Juan Airlines president Clyde Carlson didn’t seem too concerned Monday about the impending competition.
“Everyone’s got the right to do whatever they need to do,” Carlson said.
“If someone wants to provide service, they can do that.”
