PORT TOWNSEND — Manresa Castle may be headed for local ownership at an auction next week, the auction company president believes.
“Most of our interest has been right there locally,” William Bone said Tuesday.
“I have a feeling you’re going to have a local buyer.”
Castle owner Lena Humber of San Rafael, Calif., made the decision to sell the 40 room hotel in February.
Bone, president of Alabama-based National Auction Group Inc., admits that Manresa Castle hasn’t generated as much interest as the auctioneers expected.
Although he still hopes the castle will sell for a high price, it could turn out to be a deal for a lucky bidder next Tuesday, Bone said.
“It might be quite an opportunity for somebody,” he said.
“If there weren’t bargains at auctions, people wouldn’t come to them.”
It will cost $100,000 in certified funds to get into the auction for the castle. From there, the price can only go up.
