PORT TOWNSEND — A challenge to the community by the Real Estate Agents for Affordable Housing has raised $17,126 for Habitat for Humanity.
“REPAH members wanted to increase the impact of our donation to Habitat for Humanity — and the community stepped forward,”‘ said real estate agent Teri Nomura. “Affordable housing improves the community for everyone.”
REPAH, a nonprofit organization established in 1992, is underwriting expenses for a Habitat house being built on 20th Street.
To leverage its donation, the group offered to match donations from the community — up to $5,000.
The challenge brought in $3,851 from local businesses and $8,275 from individuals, said Gray Foster, coordinator of Habitat for Humanity’s East Jefferson County chapter.
