PORT TOWNSEND — The Jefferson County Historical Society plans to recognize pioneering farm families in April and is seeking statements from those who own farms that have been managed and operated by the same family since 1915 or before.
The farms and their owners will be recognized during the historical society’s Founders’ Month.
Submissions should be mailed no later than March 15.
“Jefferson County pioneering farm families are part of the historic tapestry of our county,” said Bill Tennent, executive director of the historical society.
“It is time to recognize the families who have maintained our county’s pioneer farms.”
Said board member Nancy McDaniel: “The family farm represents the traditions upon which our state was built.
“Jefferson County Historical Society would like to honor those families who have retained the properties and have continued to follow in the footsteps of the pioneers who established the farms.”
Owners are asked to submit a short statement to the Jefferson County Historical Society, 540 Water St., Port Townsend, WA 98368, describing the farm and identifying the ancestors and current operators.
The statement also can be emailed to Billtennent@jchswa.org.
