PORT ANGELES — Clallam County high school poets are invited to enter their work in the 2015 Clallam County PoetrySLAM and compete for prizes.
The deadline for entries is 5 p.m. Friday, April 3. Entries must be delivered to the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St.
“This is your chance to express your ideas, compete for great prizes and share your creativity with the community,” said Jennifer Lu’Becke, youth services specialist at the library.
All students in grades 9-12 can enter. Up to three original poems will be accepted.
Poems must be the student’s original work and cannot exceed 60 lines combined.
To be eligible for prizes, entrants must present their poetry to contest judges at the High School PoetrySLAM at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, at the library.
Poems can be read or recited from memory.
Prizes include a Samsung tablet, inclusion in the Poetry in the Park program and $50 in gift certificates to local bookstores.
The 2015 Clallam County PoetrySLAM is a celebration of National Poetry Month.
It is supported by the Port Angeles Friends of the Library.
Entry forms are available at the website at www.nols.org, from Port Angeles High School Librarian Susan McDonald or from the youth services department at the Port Angeles Library.
