SEQUIM — Now is the time to take up your pen or keyboard, say the organizers of the inaugural Rainshadow Poetry Competition.
The deadline to enter the contest, open to Clallam and Jefferson county residents of all ages, is 5 p.m. this Friday.
So “in case you’re sitting on the fence, submit your poem,” co-chairwomen Judy Duncan and Ruth Marcus write in their invitation.
“It’s an opportunity to participate in a community poetry writing contest. If your poem is chosen, it will be published in a chapbook,” and you can be part of the April 26 gala reading at Olympic Theatre Arts in Sequim.
To enter:
■ Write your poems around the theme of “A new beginning.”
■ Submit as many as three poems of up to 25 lines each.
■ Pay the fee of $5 if you’re in kindergarten up through 12th grade, $10 if you’re an adult or $7 if you’re a senior 65 or older.
■ Visit www.wideawakepublishing.com, see the “Rainshadow Poetry” page on Facebook or phone 360-681-2205 for information.
■ Submit your poems, either by email to judy1ster@gmail.com with your name, address and phone number included or by regular mail to Judy Duncan/Poetry, P.O. Box 1033, Sequim, WA 98382, enclosing a check for your entry fee made payable to Olympic Theatre Arts.
The Rainshadow Poetry Competition is sponsored by Olympic Theatre Arts and dedicated to Jim Fisher, the late writer and Peninsula College professor. Fisher died of cancer Nov. 2.
