PORT TOWNSEND — An electrical malfunction caused a pickup truck to catch fire at Point Hudson.
The owner of the 2003 Chevy truck, Peter Bahls of Port Townsend — the executive director of the Northwest Watershed Institute — was beginning a presentation to the Puget Sound Anglers when the fire started Tuesday night.
Bahls stopped his presentation and attended to the truck, then resumed the talk.
“It turned into the most exciting presentation I’ve ever given,” he said. “The fire really woke people up.”
East Jefferson Fire-Rescue received the call at 7:28 p.m. and arrived in time to extinguish the blaze, said Bill Beezley, fire district spokesman, who added that the truck was destroyed.
No one was injured.
The truck was in proximity to Pygmy Boats, a manufacturer of wooden kayaks, but the fire was put out before it could endanger the boats, Beezley said.
