Clallam County Economic Development Corp. seeks executive director

PORT ANGELES — The Clallam County Economic Development Corp. is advertising its open position for executive director and CEO.

The new director will earn between $75,000 and $100,000 and will have a competitive benefit and retirement program, according to the ad.

The executive director will be the chief administrator and economic development officer, work closely with business owners and government officials and coordinating expertise from other agencies to promote new and existing business development throughout the county, the ad says.

So far, the EDC has received a handful of applications for the position, said Randy Johnson, board chairman.

The goal is to have a new director hired sometime in March, he said.

The position became open after the former director, Bill Greenwood, announced his retirement following a closed-door meeting last month.

Greenwood’s last day will be Dec. 31. Doug Sellon, the current vice chairman of the board, will step in as acting executive director until a replacement is hired.

He also will serve as chairman when Johnson leaves. Johnson has been elected to the Clallam County Board of Commissioners.

Johnson has said previously Sellon will be paid $50 per hour for no longer than four months and payment will be capped at 40 hours per week.

“He will not serve more than three or four months,” Johnson said. “That makes it important to find a new executive director.”

Come Jan. 1, Johnson will not be involved in the hiring process and has had a minimal involvement in the process to date, he said.

The board has put forward a transition plan for uninterrupted operation of the EDC and will seek to hire Greenwood’s replacement in the next three to four months.

The remaining staff members have agreed to continue to work with the EDC, Johnson said.
