EDITOR’S NOTE —The name of the Port Ludlow woman who died after a motorcycle crash has been corrected.

CHIMACUM — A Port Ludlow motorcycle rider has died after a collision with a car on Center Road.

M. Elizabeth Miller, 76, died at the Jefferson County International Airport in Port Townsend while paramedics prepared her to be airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, said Keppie Keplinger, East Jefferson Fire Rescue spokeswoman.

Her left leg had been torn off in a collision with a car on Center Road near Chimacum a little before 11 a.m. today.

Aretta McClure, 85, of Quilcene was extricated from her Volkswagon station wagon and was taken to Jefferson Healthcare hospital, Keplinger said.

She was treated and discharged from the hospital.

Miller and her husband, Miles Miller, were riding motorcycles on Larson Lake Road when they turned on Center Road crossing the northbound lane to head south, according to Keplinger.

McClure was headed north on Center Road in the station wagon.

Miles Miller, who was in the lead, managed to pass the car and avoid injury but his wife’s motorcycle and the car collided, Keplinger said.

Her motorcycle was pushed into a ditch on the northbound side of the road where it caught fire and was extinguished by East Jefferson Fire Rescue firefighters.

McClure’s car came to rest down a hill on the opposite side of the road. She was extricated from her vehicle before she was taken to the hospital.

Center Road was closed from state Highway 19 to Eaglemount Road for several hours while Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies conducted an investigation.

Port Ludlow Fire & Rescue & Quilcene Fire Rescue also responded to the scene.

CHIMACUM — A woman motorcycle rider lost a leg and another woman was injured after a wreck on Center Road this morning.

Marian Elizabeth Williams, 78, was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle after her left leg was amputated in the wreck reported a little before 11 a.m., according to Keppie Keplinger, East Jefferson Fire Rescue spokeswoman.

Willliams’ hometown was not available.

Rita McClure, 85, of Quilcene was extricated from her Volkswagon station wagon and has been taken to Jefferson Healthcare hospital, Keplinger said.

Ryan Menday, Jefferson County sheriff’s deputy, estimated at about noon that Center Road would remain closed for another two hours during investigation and cleanup.

Two motorcycles turned left from Larson Lake Road onto Center Road heading south and one collided with a car traveling north, according to first responders.

The motorcycle burned in a ditch.

Williams’ husband was riding the other motorcycle. He was not injured.

More information will be published as it becomes available.
