1st UPDATE: Heavy winds forecast for Port Townsend, Port Ludlow and West End coastline.

The National Weather Service has upgraded Wednesday’s heavy wind watch to a high wind warning today for North Olympic Peninsula towns including Port Townsend, Port Ludlow, Forks, Neah Bay and LaPush.

South winds of 25 mph to 40 mph with possible gusts to near 60 mph are forecast until 6 p.m. for the Admiralty Inlet and eastern Strait of Juan de Fuca areas reaching as far north as the Canadian border.

The high wind warning for the Pacific coast is in effect until 3 p.m., stretching from Cape Flattery south to Westport. Winds with gusts to 60 mph also are forecast.

Winds in the Port Angeles-Sequim areas are not expected to exceed 23 mph, the Weather Service said.

On Vancouver Island, Environment Canada issued a storm warning for today, and is expecting southeast winds along the Pacific coast north of the Strait of up to 55 knots (64 mph) until this evening.

Winds on the western island will continue to gust up to 30 mph until midday Friday, Environment Canada reported.

Breezy conditions are forecast for the Victoria area today.
