LETTER: Hope Sequim library questions receive community’s support

Support library

After living in Sequim for 15 years, my wife and I moved to Seattle to be closer to our family.

While in Sequim, we were active supporters of the North Olympic Library System.

We helped with the levy lift campaign and I was on the boards of the Friends of Sequim Library and NOLS.

This experience reinforced our strong belief in the importance that public libraries play in the lives of our communities.

Not only do they provide enjoyable and enlightening reading materials, but they are a vital forum for groups to gather to learn and to debate the issues of the day.

Throughout our time in Sequim there was discussion of the need to expand the size of the Sequim branch.

While a renovation modernized and increased the efficiency of the space, it did not do what was clearly needed — create the additional space that will assure that the Sequim branch is able to strengthen even further the vital role it plays in the community.

While we no longer live in Sequim, we have followed the impressive planning and community engagement process that has led to the two bond issues on the November ballot.

We hope that both receive the strong support that the community needs.

Jim Roberts,

Seattle
