LETTER: Consider the record when choosing for state legislature

Bill Peach should be commended for participating in a collaborative way on the Board of Commissioners.

But he is way off-base to charge Mike Doherty with not doing the same.

Doherty spent years on one of the most collaborative, functional county commissioner boards.

Along with Steve Tharinger and Mike Chapman, they constituted a board that was the envy of every county in the state for their productive, cooperative working relationship.

It is no accident that that board kept Clallam County out of debt, and met county needs responsibly, while every other county struggled.

There was a recent period during which the board was dysfunctional, fractious and contentious.

The common denominator for that period was the presence of Jim McEntire.

During that period the board’s fiscal responsibility and service level both suffered.

So he is the one that should be receiving Peach’s criticism and voters should consider that record when choosing between Tharinger and McEntire for the state legislature.
