PREPS: Port Angeles softball falls to Olympic

Angevine triples twice as Rider baseball wins big

PORT ANGELES — Olympic plated four third-inning runs to take control of the game on its way to a 9-4 Olympic League softball upset of Port Angeles on Thursday at Dry Creek Elementary.

The Trojans strung together three straight doubles as part of their big inning.

Port Angeles got a pair of runs back in the bottom of the fourth when Taylor Worthington belted a solo home run to center field and Natalie Robinson singled, advanced into scoring position on an Abby Kimball single and scored when Kennedy Rognlien poked a ground ball through to left field.

Kimball added a two-run single to score Worthington and Robinson in the bottom of the fifth and cut the score to 8-4 Olympic, but the Riders couldn’t muster any more offense.

Cheyenne Zimmer was tagged with the loss in the circle after allowing eight runs on nine hits and a walk with two strikeouts in 4.2 innings pitched.

Heidi Leitz gave up a run on four hits and two walks in 2.1 innings of relief.

Port Angeles (6-2, 11-2) is now tied with the Trojans (6-2, 7-6) for second behind unbeaten North Kitsap (8-0, 11-0).

The Riders visit Olympic on Monday to resume a contest that was delayed earlier this month.

North Kitsap 15, Sequim 3

POULSBO — The No. 3 Vikings did what they’ve done all season — win — against the Wolves.

Sequim was limited to four hits in the game led by Mia Pozernick’s two-run home run.

Taylee Rome also doubled and scored for the Wolves (7-3, 7-4).

Sequim visits North Mason on Tuesday.

Baseball Port Angeles 12, Kingston 1

KINGSTON — Leadoff hitter Alex Angevine opened the contest with one of his two triples and the Riders took advantage of five Buccaneers errors in a six-inning contest Thursday.

Angevine reached base in all four of his plate appearances going 3 for 3 with the two triples, a walk, a stolen base, three runs and an RBI to lead the Port Angeles offense.

Ezra Townsend added an RBI single, a stolen base and a run and Blake Merideth came through near the bottom of the order with a two-run single.

Kole Acker also went 1 for 2 with a walk, two stolen bases and a pair of RBIs for the Riders and Elijah Flodstrom had an RBI double and two runs.

Blake Sohlberg earned the win on the mound, allowing one run while scattering four hits and two walks in four innings of work with five strikeouts.

Rylan Politika allowed a hit and struck out one in two innings of relief.

Sequim 6, North Mason 5

BELFAIR — Brayden White’s two-out, two-run single in the sixth inning served as the game-winning hit in a road win.

White also doubled, walked and drove in three runs to pace the Wolves.

Ayden Holland also drove in a run and Devyn Dearinger had two hits for Sequim (4-8, 8-8).

Ethan Staples struck out seven while allowing five runs on seven hits and five walks.

Lincoln Bear pitched a nearly flawless sixth and seventh, allowing one walk with one strikeout.
