PREP SPORTS: Snow postpones games all over Olympic Peninsula

PORT ANGELES — Multiple basketball games around in the Olympic Peninsula were postponed Monday and Tuesday nights due to snowfall and icy road conditions, with several games rescheduled to Friday.

Friday was left open on the schedule by the Olympic League in case tiebreaking games or makeup games had to be played.

The Port Angeles girls and boys games Tuesday against Bremerton were postponed. The Port Angeles boys will now play at Bremerton at 6 p.m. Friday, while the girls will play the Knights at home 7 p.m. Friday. Not only is that the girls’ final home game of the year, the Roughriders might lock up second place all alone with a win that night.

The boys game could affect the Olympic League championship as Bremerton and Sequim are locked in a battle for first place in the league. Bremerton plays at Sequim at 7 p.m. Thursday, weather permitting, and the Knights could lock up the league title with a win that night. Port Angeles may also have to win at home Thursday against Kingston and at Bremerton on Friday to have a chance for the postseason.

The Sequim girls game against North Kitsap was also moved to 7 p.m. Friday in Sequim for the Wolves’ final home game of the year. The Sequim boys game versus North Kitsap in Poulsbo was also moved to Friday, meaning the Wolves will have two monster games on back-to-back nights, against first-place Bremerton on Thursday and against perennial league power North Kitsap on Friday.

Forks’ Tuesday game against Chief Leschi was also postponed. The Forks’ girls game against Chief Leschi on Monday was also postponed. Those games will not be rescheduled because they wouldn’t have affected the league standings and the District 4 2B tournament begins Saturday.
