PREP FOOTBALL: (Updated) Sequim shuts out North Mason — Other area and statewide scores

Port Angeles, Forks, Neah Bay, Quilcene all win BIG

SEQUIM — Sequim’s offense, defense and special teams ensured a happy Homecoming celebration as the Wolves battered North Mason 36-0 Friday night.

After North Mason stopped the Wolves with a goal-line stand on the opening drive of the game, Sequim had prime field possession for much of the contest.

Lars Wiker opened up the scoring with a 10-yard QB draw.

The Wolves also produced a 60-yard punt return from Zeke Schmadeke for a touchdown to lead 14-0 at halftime. Andew Keeler also had a 65-yard interception return in the second half for the Wolves.

Sequim (2-3, 2-4) hosts North Kitsap on Friday.

Forks 69, Coupeville 7

COUPEVILLE — With Nate Dahlgren out, Brody Lausche stepped up and scored five touchdowns from the tailback position as Forks swamped Coupeville 67-9 in preparation for the Spartans’ huge game this week against Pe Ell/Willapa Valley.

Lausche had TD runs of 1, 2, 3, 9 and 24 yards. He also blocked a punt that Walker Wheeler picked up and ran in for a score.

Bubba Hernandez also had touchdown runs of 73, 36, 35 and 35 yards and intercepted a pass. Lausche finished with 120 yards rushing while Hernandez had 192 yards rushing. Landon Olson also had an interception.

“We were clicking on all cylinders,” said coach Trevor Highfield.

The Spartans have a massive game at 7 p.m. Friday against Pe Ell/Willapa Valley with Forks (2-1, 6-1) ranked No. 7 among 2B teams and Pe Ell (3-2, 5-2) ranked No. 5.

“This is a great opportunity. We’re excited that the place that we’re in,” Highfield said.

Quilcene 57, Lummi 0

LUMMI ISLAND — For the first time in 10 years, the Quilcene football team beat Lummi in Lummi, getting four touchdowns from Andrew Perez in a 57-0 rout.

The Rangers were up 44-0 by halftime.

“It’s the first time in 10 years that I’ve been here that we’ve won at Lummi. To me, that’s a good accomplishment,” said coach Trey Beathard. Even in 2021, when Quilcene went to the state 1B championship game, the Rangers lost at Lummi.

Beathard said the Rangers started the game a little sloppy with an early turnover, but then were able to run the ball well behind the line play of Taylor Boling, Kaiden Faller and Hunter Simmons. “They did a good job all game of opening up holes,” Beathard said.

On defense, Boling also had a quarterback sack and a blocked punt.

Perez had six carries for 119 yards with one of his touchdowns a 50-yard run. Perez also had an interception and two fumble recoveries on defense, and ran a punt back 45 yards for a touchdown. Mason Iverson ran six times for 70 yards.

Dominic Smith also hit Oliver Hopkins with a 50-yard touchdown pass and Eli Iverson had two long touchdown runs, including a 60-yarder. Robert Evans had a 35-yard touchdown run and a 27-yard reception.

Tyler Matheson, an eighth-grader, made an interception in the fourth quarter. While tackling Matheson, a Lummi player broke his collarbone, which required a long medical delay. At that point, the game was called, Beathard said.

Next week, Quilcene (2-2, 2-4) plays at Tulalip Heritage (2-5) at 2 p.m. Saturday.

“We hope we’re getting better. We have played some good teams,” Beathard said.

Neah Bay 64, Darrington 14

NEAH BAY — Darrington had been absolutely on fire this season, starting its season 6-0. Neah Bay, meanwhile, got off to an 0-2 start, with both losses by big margins.

It hardly matters now. Neah Bay showed the Loggers on Friday that they aren’t quite one of the elite teams yet with a 64-14 drubbing of the previously unbeaten team.

“Jodell Wimberley had a monster game,” said coach TJ Greene. Wimberley finished the game with 266 yards rushing and seven touchdowns.

Greene said that Wimberley couldn’t have put up those huge numbers without the help of blocking from Azariah Greene and Seactis Woodruff. “They were clearing holes on the O-line,” he said. In addition to Wimberley’s touchdowns, Tyler Swan had six point-after-touchdown runs

Greene said the result against a 6-0 team “exceeded my expectations. Those guys as a team really rallied.”

Neah Bay (4-2), now winners of four straight and seemingly with the kinks worked out from the early-season struggles, faces a familiar rival in Lummi (1-5) at home at 5 p.m. Friday. Though the Blackhawks are down this year, Greene is telling his players not to look past that game.

Saturday’s game Charles Wright 52, Crescent 8

TACOMA — Crescent was able to beat Charles Wright earlier this season 20-16, but this time around the Tarriers had an expanded roster and it showed in a 52-8 win over the Loggers.

“They had a lot more guys than the first time we played them. And they were definitely athletes,” said coach Brian Shimko.

Crescent (1-3, 3-4) plays Neah Bay’s junior varsity at Neah Bay on Tuesday, then plays a league game at 1 p.m. Saturday against Concrete (3-2, 5-2) in Joyce.
