SEQUIM — Sequim came four minutes away from a regulation victory but was penalized late and the Wolves eventually dropped a penalty kick shootout 4-3 to Bremerton on Tuesday night.
“The game was great and hard fought on both ends,” coach Dave Breckenridge said.
Sequim tied the game at 1-all in the first half.
“Nicco Musso scored the tying goal by an amazing drive by Finn Braatan breaking through down the right side to the touch line and driving through multiple defenders to send a beautiful through ball to the penalty mark where Nicco was to put it away,” Breckenridge said.
Mekhi Ashby put Sequim up 2-1 in the second half.
“He made a great turn at the top of the 18-yard box and blasted a screamer to beat the keeper near post,” Breckenridge said. “He absolutely threaded a needle to make the shot.”
The Wolves tried to possess the ball and keep the Knights in check.
“Bremerton continued to play boot ball and send their guy in the box,” Breckenridge said. “Unfortunately, we ended up at the mercy of another bad call [a penalty].”
Ashby and Braaten made their penalty kicks in the shootout but the Wolves had two attempts saved by the Knights’ goalkeeper.
“The boys played great …We still had a chance to get that victory and that’s on us for not finishing,” Breckenridge said.
Sequim (6-7-0) rounds out the regular season at Kingston (2-10-0) tonight.

PORT TOWNSEND — The Rivals earned a senior night victory and prepped for the playoffs with a home win Tuesday night at Memorial Field.
“We started off very slow and picked things up after we scored a goal,” coach Logan Stegner said. “The highlight of the match would be getting all of seniors some playing time on the field — a very special group of students.”
Rivals goal-scorers were Rene Martin, Edu Martinez and Simon Barlow.
East Jefferson (4-7-3, 4-9-3) is the Nisqually League No. 6 and will play at No. 3 Klahowya (9-2-2, 11-2-2) in a loser-out contest at noon Saturday. The Rivals earned a 1-1 draw against the Eagles and also fell 3-1 to Klahowya last Friday.
Boys Golf Bainbridge 156, Port Angeles 163
PORT ANGELES — Both teams were on fire in a nine-hole match at Peninsula Golf Club on Tuesday.
All six Port Angeles players shot rounds of 44 strokes or fewer with Cale Wentz leading the way with a 2-over-par 38.
Wentz tied for second with Bainbridge’s Andrew Grinter and was two back of the even-par 36 Spartans medalist Dane Byers posted.
Nate Anderson and Sky Gelder each shot 41 for the Riders, while Reid Schmidt and Austin Worthington tied at 43.
Max Gagnon added a 44.
“Bainbridge has been putting up consistently league leading scores all season and it was great to see the potential in everyone’s game,” coach Bob Anderson said.
“I am very proud of our team. These guys are playing very well actually, and our potential is wide open, and we know how to compete. And now we move on to the postseason. Stay tuned.”
Port Angeles (7-3) will wrap the season today in the North Kitsap Invitational at Port Ludlow Golf Club and will compete in the Olympic League Championship on Monday at Kingston’s White Horse Golf Club.
Girls Golf Bainbridge 193, Port Angeles 212
PORT ANGELES — The Spartans edged the Riders in a competitive match Tuesday at Peninsula Golf Club.
“Malena Marquez and Autumn Wilson-Rowland continue their good play with each shooting a 51,” coach Mike DuPuis said. “Next was Mia Neff with a 54. Lauryn Chapman had a 56, Claire Osterberg a 58 and Izzy Spencer a 62.”
Bainbridge’s Sara Kreigh shot a 41 to earn match medalist honors.

SEQUIM — The Wolves swept the rival Roughriders for the second time this season.
It was the scheduled regular season finale for both Sequim (9-4) and Port Angeles (4-9).
The Wolves and Riders will compete in the Olympic League Tournament at North Kitsap on May 10-11.
