PREP FOOTBALL: Quilcene trounces Taholah, advances to state quarterfinals

ABERDEEN — Quilcene controlled its 1B state playoff game with Taholah, cruising to a 56-8 win Saturday at Stewart Field in Aberdeen.

“The kids did really well,” Rangers coach Byron Wilson said.

“Taholah had a hard time holding on to the ball. They fumbled a lot.”

Quilcene rolled to a 20-0 lead after one quarter, and led 28-0 when the defense effectively closed the game out with two TDs.

Hayes Beathard recovered a Chitwins fumble in the end zone for a score, and Eli Harrison intercepted a pass and returned it 85 yards for another TD to trigger the running clock with 6:37 to go before halftime.

Harrison intercepted two passes in the game.

On offense, he rushed for 37 yards and a touchdown, and also threw a 22-yard TD pass to Juan Rogers.

A.J. Prater led the Rangers (8-2) with 106 yards rushing and TD.

Acea Such rushed for 91 yards and two TDs in the fourth quarter.

Quilcene will face Lummi in the state quarterfinals.

The Blackhawks routed Evergreen Lutheran 50-0 on Saturday.
