CHAMPIONS AGAIN — Peninsula Pirates win fourth NWAC men's soccer championship

TUKWILA — The Peninsula College men claimed another Northwest Athletic Conference championship by defeating Spokane 4-3 on Sunday at Starfire Sports Complex.

The Pirates took a two-goal lead early in the second half when tournament MVP Keo Ponce scored his second goal of the game in the 54th minute. The Sasquatch then tied the score at 3-3 on a Peninsula own goal in the 76th minute.

The tie held for nine minutes, and was broken when Jose Soto chested a ball into a net off a header by Eddie Benito in the 85th minute.

The NWAC title is the Pirates’ fourth. All have come in the last six years. It was the first under head coach Cale Rodriguez.
