ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Devyn Dearinger, Sequim baseball

Sequim’s Devyn Dearinger had a game to remember on March 26 against North Mason.

With the Wolves down 7-5 in the fifth inning, Dearinger hit a bases-clearing double to give Sequim an 8-7 lead. It turned out to be the game-winning hit as Sequim held North Mason scoreless the rest of the game. Dearinger finished the game going 2-for-4 with two doubles, four RBIs and a run scored.

Against Lakewood on Saturday, Dearinger walked twice, drove in a run and stole three bases. He has also played solid defense for the Wolves at third base, shortstop and the outfield, making just two errors in five games despite playing four different infield and outfield positions.

Dearinger and his Wolves teammates return to action today, hosting rival Port Angeles at 4:15 p.m. Sequim then travels to Port Angeles at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the home-and-away series.

Athlete of the Week is sponsored by Swain’s General Store of Port Angeles.
