Roughriders cheerleaders shine at camp

TACOMA — The 13-member Port Angeles High School Cheer squad prepped for the fall sports season with some award-winning efforts at the Universal Cheerleaders Association camp held in July at the University of Puget Sound.

Roughriders cheerleaders worked on skills and new routines to debut at football games this season.

The squad brought home first place for Cheer in the Small Varsity Division while also competing in several other catagories such as sideline, band chant and camp dance. Port Angeles also earned a spirit stick, awarded to teams displaying the highest level of team spirit, or those who performed well and whose hard work was evident.

Senior cheerleaders Jordyn Erdmann and Julia McDonald also tried out and were selected for the UCA All-American team that performs in parades in Hawaii, Disneyland and London.

Rivals football, cheer

PORT TOWNSEND — The East Jefferson Rivals Youth Football League will hold a football and cheer camp for ages 4 through 12 at Memorial Field on Saturday.

Registration opens at 9:30 a.m. and the camp will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cost is $25 per participant and includes a cool treat and a $10 discount on regular season registration fees.

The camp is open to players and cheerleaders of all skill levels.

If cheerleaders register for the regular season, they will receive a free bow for their hair with their uniforms.

Participants should dress in athletic attire and bring plenty of water and snacks.

Limited concessions will be available for purchase.

Registration events for those unable to attend camp are set for HJ Carroll Park in Chimacum from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday and 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Aug. 10.

Fees are $90 for A, B and C squads, $55 for each additional sibling. A refundable $100 gear deposit also is required.

Flag football is $55, with another $40 for a jersey and socks if your player needs one.

Card, cash and check are all accepted.

Practices are set to begin Aug. 14 with gear issue the same week.

JeffCo Soccer Club

CHIMACUM — Registration is open for Jefferson County Soccer Club’s fall recreational soccer program for players ages 7 through 18 (U7-U18).

Practices normally begin in late August, with coaches setting the number of practices per week (usually once a week in season and twice a week during the preseason).

Teams will play a 10-game season with five away games on the Kitsap Peninsula and five home games at HJ Carroll Park.
