AMERICAN LEGION: Wilder players come from all around the Peninsula

The Wilder Baseball Club is fielding a AAA American Legion senior team with a mix of Sequim, Port Angeles and Forks players and a AA team again with a mix of players from all around the Olympic Peninsula.

The junior AA team is already off to a fantastic 3-0 start. The AAA team has lost three close games that could have gone either way.

Wilder A’s season starts June 19 as some of this team’s players are also in Olympic Junior Babe Ruth. OJBR has its championship game next Tuesday.

Wilder Sr. is made up largely of Port Angeles Roughriders who qualified for the 2A state tournament. These players include Nate Basden, Alex Angevine, Luke Flodstrom, Colton Romero, Tate Alton, Ezra Townsend, Rylan Politika, Josiah Gooding, Kaleb Mullen, Jordan Shumway and Brayden Martin.

There is a nice contingent of Sequim players on this year’s team, the most in a few years. The Sequim High School team also had a successful year with a winning record, coming up just one victory short of qualifying for the 2A state tournament.

Sequim players include Bryant Laboy, Ethan Staples, Lincoln Bear and Brayden White. Also on the team is Forks’ Landen Olson.

The juniors include a mix of Port Angeles, Sequim and Forks kids, with one player, Rylan Dunn, coming from East Jefferson.

Players include Carson Waddell, Hunter Stratford, Dunn, Bryce Deleon, Carston Seibel, Brandt Perry, Bubba Hernandez, Owen Leitz, Ian Smithson, Trae Hanan, Kody Williams, Ryland Proiette, Logan Doyle, Braedyn Boulden, Clay Abrams and Easton Fisher.

Wilder A will begin at 6 p.m. June 19 by hosting the Kingston Kings at Volunteer Field.

Wilder Sr. is off to Selah this weekend to play teams from Hanford and Yakima Valley. Wilder Jr. is taking a three-day road trip from Friday to Sunday to the northwestern part of the state this weekend to play Mount Vernon, Lynden and a team from Burlington.

Wilder Sr. has four home games set for Saturday and Sunday against Whatcom, with games scheduled for Civic Field (but could be moved to Volunteer Field, especially depending on weather) beginning at 1 p.m. and 10 a.m. Sunday.

Wilder Senior also has home games June 26-28 against the Colts, the Crush Baseball Orange squad and the Kitsap Ospreys. The Dick Brown Memorial tournament on June 29-30, which is a little early this year because the Port Angeles Lefties have home games over the July 4 weekend. Wilder Sr. has more home games against the Colts on July 2 and Lakeside Legion July 6.

Wilder Sr. also has home games July 20-21 against Lakeside Legion and Lakeside Recovery.

Wilder Jr. will host Whatcom Post AA on June 15 for a doubleheader and the North City Pilots for two games on June 16, with all games at Volunteer Field.

Wilder Jr. also hosts a doubleheader against Sedro-Woolley AA June 25 and plays the Colts, Shoreline Royals and CBC Green June 26-28. Wilder Jr. also plays in the Dick Brown tournament June 29-30. Wilder Jr. also has home games against NW Sting on July 11, Ferndale on July 12 and Pipeline Pirates on July 13.

The state AAA tournament begins July 27 and the AA districts begins July 17.

Wilder AAA and Wilder AA are both included on the Gamechanger app with schedules, box scores, live play-by-play and stats. Wilder A will be set up soon on Gamechanger.

Wilder AAA is coached by Zac Moore, also coach of the Roughriders. AA is coached by Greg Dickman and A is coached by Kamron Meadows.
