NOHN recognized by American Heart Association

PORT ANGELES — The North Olympic Health Network has been recognized by the American Heart Association for its efforts to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, strokes and type 2 diabetes.

The network earned gold achievement awards for the AHA’s 2020 Target: BP and Target: Type 2 Diabetes programs.

The Target: BP award requires a healthcare organization to control blood pressure in 70 percent or more of its hypertensive patients.

“Diagnosing and effectively managing hypertension is extremely important. It requires a strong provider-patient partnership,” said Dr. Mike Maxwell, NOHN CEO.

The Target: Type 2 Diabetes award focuses on control of hemoglobin A1C (HbA1c) levels and blood pressure in diabetic patients.

A healthcare organization must demonstrate that 75 percent or more of their diabetic patients have a HbA1c level of 9 percent or less and that 70 percent or more of their diabetic patients have their blood pressure under control to earn the gold award.

According to a press release, the 2020 awards are based on clinical outcomes from Jan. 1, 2019, through Dec. 31, 2019.
