SEQUIM –– City Hall moved over the weekend to two locations as officials prepare for construction of a new $15 million civic center.
Offices are being moved to Suite 17 in the Sequim Valley Shopping Center, 609 W. Washington St., and to the former Head Start administrative building, 226 N. Sequim Ave.
The government offices are scheduled to reopen Tuesday.
Utility bills, water-quality test kits, passes and business licenses will be processed at the Suite 17 office next to the police station in the shopping center anchored by the J.C. Penney Co. department store.
Applications for passports, employment, public information, volunteer services and service of process and claims will be at the Head Start building.
“I think we’ve just gotten rid of my most common question: ‘Is this the police station?’” said City Attorney Craig Ritchie, whose office moved from Suite 17 to the Head Start building as part of the move.
The drop box for utility payments will be in a new location in front of Penney’s starting this morning.
City Hall closed at noon Friday, and workers began moving furniture and documents to the two locations that will house city offices until the new City Hall and police station are built.
Phones were shut down at Friday.
The city’s main phone number, 360-683-4139, is expected to be back in full service today.
Sequim police will not move from Suite 16 in the Sequim Village Shopping Center. For non-emergencies, the Police Department phone number is 360-683-7227. For emergencies, dial 9-1-1.
The City Council is expected to choose a final design for the new City Hall and police station when it meets at 6 p.m. today at the Sequim Transit Center, 190 W. Cedar St.
Construction is expected to begin early next year, with the building opening set for 2015.
