JOYCE — Tracey Grover has always supported Crescent School District’s maintenance and operations levy.
As a parent of two elementary-age children who attend Crescent School, Grover said she has campaigned for the levy, telephoned other voters for its support and, in February, cast her ballot in its favor.
But as the school district this week tried to pass a replacement maintenance and operations levy and failed for a second time in three months, Grover joined the majority of voters in voting “no.”
Not because of the money, but because of dissatisfaction with the School Board and superintendent.
“It’s trying to send a message, and for (the district leadership) to understand that there are some people who really do care and that we need to be listened to,” Grover said Wednesday.
Initial ballot tallies from Tuesday’s replacement maintenance and operations levy election showed the measure failing with only 47.9 percent voter support.
State law requires 60 percent voter support for school levies to pass.
