Jefferson County 4-H gets state competition results

PUYALLUP — The Washington State Fair presented awards to several Jefferson County 4-H’ers during statewide competition during the first two weekends in September.

Paws N’ Claws, the Jefferson County 4-H state cat team, featured Layla Franson in the senior category and Gwen Mathews in the intermediate category.

Franson and her cat Hamari were named Reserve Champion Showmanship, received a Blue Ribbon for Household Pet Longhair, were named Reserve Champion Judging with a second place in oral reasons and received a Blue Ribbon and Special Merit award in public presentation.

Franson was also a member of the Champion Senior Quiz Bowl Team.

Mathews and her cat Chloe placed sixth in Showmanship, earned a Blue Ribbon for Household Pet Shorthair and placed third in Judging with the Championship in Intermediate Oral Reasons.

The Quilcene Wranglers, Jefferson County’s 4-H state cattle team featured Claire Reinertsen and Alisha Freiberg in the junior category and Chloe Freiberg in the intermediate category.

Reinertsen and her steer “Beef Patty Patrick” were named Reserve Grand Champion overall for the steer class and placed first in fitting and showing.

Freiberg earned fourth place for fitting and showing and Freiberg placed third in fitting and showing.

The Wranglers scored the highest in herdsmanship out of the whole barn.
