PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Fire Department and a crew from Clallam County Fire District 2 extinguished a brush fire in a transient encampment that forced the closure of the Tumwater Truck Route.
The fire, estimated to be 30 feet by 30 feet, was discovered about 4:41 p.m. Saturday in the 800 block of the Tumwater Truck Route, the Port Angeles Fire Department (PAFD) said.
A column of black smoke was visible as responding units left the Port Angeles station, so Clallam County Fire District 2 was requested, said Capt. Travis McFarland.
The truck route was closed because of the risk of exploding propane tanks, McFarland said.
“There was some difficulty accessing the fire across a creek and through brush, but hoses were deployed to extinguish the fire,” McFarland stated in a press release. “Mop up was done to ensure complete extinguishment.”
No injuries were reported.
The PAFD responded with two engines, one rescue vehicle and one duty chief. Clallam County Fire District 2 responded with one engine and one chief officer, PAFD said.
The cause remained under investigation on Monday.
